This Month’s Topic: Keys to Success in the Corporate IT World

Valerie will describe her progression from junior software developer to program manager at a major cancer therapy corporation located in the Silicon Valley and discuss some of the tactics she has used along the way that contributed to her success.   One of the key themes of the discussion will be how combining solid technical skills with strong soft skills can provide a significant advantage.

Valerie Romance’s Bio
Valerie Romance is a program manager at Varian Medical Systems which is headquartered in Palo Alto California.  Since 1994, she has also worked for the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission, James Richardson International, Assante Asset Management, and Cengea Solutions (formerly Linnet).  Her jobs have included software developer, systems analyst, project manager, application development manager, and solutions delivery manager. 

In her current role Valerie is responsible for delivering integrated releases of Varian’s suite of cancer therapy products to new and existing customers.  Varian has many locations around the globe including one in Winnipeg which is the office Valerie works from.

Valerie lives near Lorette with her husband Yury and her daughter Natasha.  When not working, Valerie can be found outside gardening in the summer, or cross-country skiing in the winter.  Valerie can be reached at
